First practical done and dusted-poached pear

So today we had our first practical ...looking back on it I do think there's room for improvement... But I don't think I did to badly for my first time making this dish and plating it.

What you see before your  very eyes  is some poached pear in red wine topped with chocolate ganache and caramelised walnuts.

I never knew that making the caramel would be so easy peasy .... So guess who will be topping everything with caramel in the next few weeks????MEEEEEEE!!!!

I must say I do enjoy myself, learning all these new recipes, and I'm excited for our next practical on Thursday. Watch this space pictures coming soon

Don't you just love presents...

... Hint hint .. I love gifts and as you can see by this mug my favorite color is blue...
But anyway...
I was blessed last year with this mug for Christmas, by one one my very good friends.
Upon receiving this mug(besides the fact that I couldn't wait to have tea in it) I realized that good friends are there to remind you of all the times you've succeeded instead of failed.

As I Sit here looking at my mug and all the pictures on it(besides the fact that my stomach begins to growl) it brings a smile to my face, because it doesn't only remind me of how much I love baking but it also excites me for how far I still want to go and all my  recipes I want to strive to perfect.

I feel proud to be using this mug and I want to keep it around for as long as I can  because I want to always be reminded as I look back, That it takes small steps to become a great baker(which I hope to be one day).

I want to end with this quote:
"There is no passion to be found playing small-in settling for a life less than the one you are capable of living" -Nelson Mandela

So for the less serious things excuse me while I go make some tea...

These cupcakes were actually made for a lady who ordered them from me( oh yes by the way you are more then welcome to order from me in the future once you've seen what I can do) ..and the kids loved them I mean come on who doesn't enjoy chocolate??

my first blog post...EVER

Hello fellow Bloggers.

My journey of a life time has just begun…

After a whole long year of waiting, I can now say my journey at capsicum has finally begun. Putting on my chef jacket all the way down to my name tag sends shivers down my spine and I catch myself smiling, knowing that my future is right at my fingertips.

For those of you who don’t know me my name is Chantelle Nel, but most people call me Chantz for short. I was born on the 20th of December 1994. I have registered at capsicum to do my diploma in pastry this year. I hope to one day open my own business/coffee shop( or should I rather say tea shop as I’m not such a huge coffee fan). I developed my love for baking at a very young age, but only really decided to follow my heart’s desire about a year ago.

I have baked for various functions. I also enjoy baking for my friends and family as they are always willing to try out my new recipes… even if they do flop… I promise to post pictures soon.

I’ve never done something like this before and I ask that you bear with me on this journey as I learn how to blog…. Watch this space.

Till next time
